In Bitcoin: Everything Divided by 21 Million, Knut Svanholm explores the sweeping implications of Hyperbitcoinisation—the global transition to a Bitcoin-based economy and the philosophical impact of absolute scarcity.
With a fixed supply of just 21 million coins, Bitcoin challenges us to rethink our understanding of value, time, and human behaviour in a world where money can no longer be inflated at will.
Knut says central banking is like “successful alchemy”. If an alchemist had discovered an easy way to make gold, they would have made themselves rich but over time gold would have been destroyed in value (much like fiat currencies now).
Additionally, Bitcoin is a system where the rules are enforced by code and consensus, not by governments or central banks. This creates a system where trust is placed in maths, not human discretion.
Knut also introduces Bitcoin as “element zero”—a massless, absolutely scarce foundation for a new economic order. Like the discovery of fundamental elements in science, Bitcoin is redefining our understanding of value, wealth and time. His famous line, “Imagine, everything there is and everything that will ever be, divided by 21 million,” captures the magnitude of this mindset.
